Cliff Graham

author of

The Lion of War Series

Cliff Graham is a former soldier, pastor, and railroad worker who is the author of novels focused on the wars of the Old Testament. His extensive training, work, and research in Israel have provided the foundation for the Biblical stories he tells. He is also the writer of the War Prayers Daily Devotional.

All of Cliff’s future projects are now under the stewardship of Kavod Family Ministries, a nonprofit 501(c)3 organization. He does not profit from sales in any way. Any donations towards Cliff’s writing are used solely by Kavod Family Ministries to acquire, publish, and distribute his work.

For years, readers have been blessed by author Cliff Graham’s novels about the wars of the Old Testament, featuring figures such as David, Caleb, Shamgar, and the legendary “Mighty Men.” His Lion of War series has earned a passionate following for its intense, realistic portrayals of warriors striving to serve a mysterious and holy God amid the brutality of combat.

Cliff’s storytelling gift lies in his ability to bridge worlds: the ancient and the modern. With unflinching realism and deep theological insight, he brings Scripture to life for readers who might never otherwise open a Bible. His work speaks to men who can be difficult to reach, showing them that the God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob is also the God of warriors, builders, husbands, and fathers.

Drawing from his own service as a soldier, his work as a chaplain, and decades of men’s ministry experience, Cliff writes with hard-earned authority about courage, loyalty, and faith under pressure, infusing his fiction with emotional truth and spiritual gravity. Working as a railroader in the coal fields of the West between seasons of writing, he is as comfortable with roughneck men on a job site as he is with white-collar professionals.

He conducted years of research for his Old Testament historical novels, including extensive time spent in the land of Israel working as a tour leader while pursuing graduate work in biblical studies. He also conducted many interviews with combat veterans from various wars, including members of the most elite fighting units from multiple nations, in order to glean insight into the minds and hearts of warriors.

Under Kavod Press...
his Lion of War novels are being republished in expanded and definitive editions

Despite the success of his early novels, Cliff’s path was not without failure. His stories were praised by critics and beloved by readers, yet their realism and explicitly masculine themes made them difficult to fit within traditional Christian publishing boundaries. In the midst of that tension, he made many mistakes that led to seasons of loss for himself and others. Those years became their own wilderness, teaching him humility and dependence on God’s mercy, and in need of redemption.

That redemption came through Kavod Family Ministries, which now serves as the permanent home for all Graham projects. The team at Kavod has not only helped restore his creative work, but also walked beside him as brothers and sisters in rebuilding what was nearly lost.

Under Kavod Press, the publishing division of Kavod Family, his Lion of War novels are being republished in expanded and definitive editions, alongside new works like The Boundary of Blood and the devotional War Prayers. Beloved by Navy SEALs, CrossFit champions, construction workers, pastors, prisoners, and accountants alike, these projects continue to reach men and women around the world who hunger for faith made real through story.

The vision of Kavod Family Ministries is to see Cliff’s works produced and distributed at a world-class level: translated into other languages, shared in churches, schools, and military bases, and one day adapted into epic motion pictures.

Today, Cliff writes, teaches, and leads creative arts projects that call men and families to a more courageous life of faith. His career, once nearly lost to battles of his own making, has become a story of restoration—proof that the same God who redeemed David from his wilderness can do the same for every man called to the fight.

We believe our global culture has a strong need for a return to the stories of Biblical heroes.

Cliff has a unique gifting to share the stories of heroic (and flawed) characters with men who ordinarily find the idea of reading the Bible dull.

Graham Projects

Despite sales success, due to their realistic nature, heavy tone, and explicitly masculine appeal, traditional Christian publishers are limited in how they can market and distribute such material. The books are Biblically faithful, but also intended for a mature audience. Beloved by Navy SEALs and CrossFit champions, as well as construction workers and accountants, the projects of Cliff Graham now have their permanent home at Kavod Family Ministries.

The vision Kavod Family Ministries has for the projects of Cliff Graham is to see them published at a world-class professional level and then widely distributed, everywhere from churches to military bases, from schools to public libraries. We want to see them translated into foreign languages and provided as a resource anywhere in the world that the Lord would want them to reach. We also believe these stories should be made into epic motion pictures, and are raising support to that end.

If you have been blessed by the ministry of these books, please consider supporting KFM's efforts to bring these stories to life with a tax-deductible ministry donation.
